Jared is from Bellmore, NY. He attended Duke University where he graduated in 2010 with a degree in biomedical engineering. Before starting medical school he spent a year teaching adaptive skiing in Colorado. During the preclinical years at NYU, Jared was co-president of the Wilderness Medicine Club, taught middle school science classes through BASIS and was on the intramural basketball and volleyball teams. In addition, he participated in the International Health Program, traveling to Iquitos, Peru and has been a member of the leadership committee for the nutrition seminar Cook Healthy Eat Fresh (CHEF). Currently, Jared is involved in research focused on aortic dissections and plans to pursue a career in cardiothoracic surgery

Sucharita Boddu

Sue was born in India and raised in the states.  She attended Stevens Institute of Technology, where she majored in Chemical Biology and History and played field hockey.  After graduating in 2008, she taught MCAT classes for The Princeton Review, volunteered as an EMT and traveled abroad to conduct research in ophthalmology.  At NYU, Sue leads the History of Medicine Interest Group, the Ophthalmology Interest Group and HELP - a program dedicated to teaching GED students in Central Harlem about health literacy.

Aaron Brandt

As one of nine adopted children in his family, Aaron grew up in a small town of Wahoo, NE with his parents and eleven siblings. He spent two years at Creighton University in Omaha, NE playing basketball, but ultimately graduated from the University of Nebraska in '11 with a degree in Nutrition Science, finishing up on the track team. At NYU, Aaron was involved with programs such as Minimeds and BASIS outreach groups and works to improve Diversity and Inclusion with the student group, the Student Diversity Initiative. Sports and outdoor activity continue to be a major part of Aaron’s life. After being split between Pediatrics and Orthopedic Surgery throughout medical school (“I know, not even close to the same thing,” he acknowledges), Aaron will be applying into Orthopedics this year and is looking forward to the next stage of this process.

Marcus Cimino

Marcus grew up in Newtown, Pa. He attended NYU College of Arts and science where he earned a B.A. in Biology, as well as minors in chemistry and business studies. While there he was also the treasurer of the NYU chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an organization aimed at providing medical care to developing countries. At NYU SoM, he has held officer positions in the Running Club and Harm Reduction Club. He also served as the Fundraising Coordinator for the NYC Free Clinic. Currently Marcus is pursuing a dual degree program with the Leonard M. Stern School of Business. In his free time he enjoys reading, drawing and running marathons.

John is from Rochester, New York. He attended Rochester Institute of Technology, where he majored in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in German language. At NYU SoM, he is currently studying E3 ubiquitin ligase-mediated protein degradation in the laboratory of Dr. Michele Pagano for his thesis project. John enjoys attending metal concerts and going to the gym in his free time.

Sonya grew up in Edmond, Oklahoma and attended Washington University in St. Louis, where she majored in Mathematics. Before NYU, she took a year off to perform research in Reproductive Epidemiology at the NIH. At NYU, she was Fundraising Coordinator for the NYC Free Clinic, leader of Ob/Gyn Interest Group, and a preclinical Women's Clinic volunteer for the NYC Free Clinic. She is also involved in a clinical study regarding the effects of a specific progesterone on vascular function. Outside of med school, Sonya enjoys practicing yoga and attending the many amazing concerts that NYC has to offer. Sonya is applying for residency in Internal Medicine.

Brent Dibble

Brent is from Ocean City, Maryland. He attended Georgetown University, where he studied Neuroscience. Since arriving at NYU, Brent has served as a course liaison, vice president of his class, and the Student Council President. Brent conducted research on biofilm formation in Shanghai, China as part of the NYU International Health Program. He is a candidate for the MD/MBA program.

Kaitlyn is from Hatfield, PA. She attended the University of New Hampshire where she majored in Chemistry and was the captain of the Track and Field team. At NYU, she led the NICU Ambassadors Program as well as the Christian Fellowship group. She volunteers with the NYC Free Clinic Outreach and with Gifts of Time. She is currently pursuing a research concentration in Cardiology and applying into Internal Medicine.

Matthew is from Centerport, New York. He attended Haverford College where he majored in Biology. Before attending NYU, Matthew took a year off to continue his research in the field of Allergy / Immunology. Now at NYU, Matthew is one of the Co-Presidents of the Cardiology Club and is an avid participant in the HELP community outreach program as well as the NYC Free Clinic.

Matt is from Holland, Pennsylvania.  He graduated from Cornell University in 2011, where he studied Neurobiology and Behavior.  At NYU, Matt is on the executive board for the Partnership for Urban Health, the Jewish Student’s Association, and the Food and Wine Club; and he is also a Course Liaison.  Matt is also active in several service groups, including Minimeds, BASIS, and Reaching Out to Kids.  He is planning on conducting research on brain tumor therapeutics this summer at NYU.  In his spare time Matt enjoys cooking, collecting vinyl record albums, and enjoying all NYC has to offer – especially the food!

A New York City native, Arielle graduated from Yale University where she majored in History of Science, History of Medicine. Prior to completing a premed postbacc at Columbia University, she worked for an adolescent health education program, as well as for an ENT and facial plastic surgeon. At NYU, Arielle is involved in Medical Students for Choice and volunteers at the Women’s Free Clinic. She is applying for residency in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In her spare time, Arielle enjoys traveling, spinning, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

Jessica grew up in Demarest, NJ and went to Horace Mann School for high school. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2011, where she was a chemistry major and theatre arts minor. In college, she was a cheerleader and her college mascot (go Quakers!). At NYU, she was actively involved in the Orthopaedic Surgery Club, and participates in research in the fields of Acute Care Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery. She is currently applying for residency in Orthopaedic Surgery. Outside of NYU, Jessica loves baking, cycling, skiing, and exploring NYC’s restaurants.

Jensen grew up in Omaha, NE, and attended Miami University in Ohio where she majored in zoology and minored in neuroscience. At NYU, she’s a co-leader of Surgery Club and tutors middle school students through BASIS.  Outside of school, she loves travel, scuba-diving, and reading.

Melinda Katz

Melinda is originally from Colts Neck, New Jersey. She attended NYU for her undergraduate degree, where she majored in economics and minored in chemistry. Prior to starting medical school, she worked in vascular surgery research at Englewood Hospital. At NYU SOM, she has been a leader of the Oncology Club, a founder and leader of the Sexual Assault/domestic Violence Awareness & Education organization, has taught middle school health workshops as part of the student teaching club Brothers and Sisters in Science (BASIS), and is a co-chair of the NYU Student Ambassadors. She spent 6 weeks conducting interdisciplinary research on maternal-child health in Lima, Peru as part of the NYU International Health Program. As a fourth year student, Melinda is currently pursuing her concentration in health disparities, and is applying to residency in internal medicine.

Sumit hails from Long Island, NY. For college, he journeyed out to attend the University of Michigan, Ann Arobr where he majored in Evolutionary Anthropology & became a passionate fan of the Wolverines. After graduation, he conducted post-bac research at the NIH. After 5 years of being away from NY, he returned to his native roots, and enrolled in NYU! During his time in medical school he serves on Student Council & volunteers at the NYC Free Clinic. Currently, he is taking an extra year to pursue a dual MD/MPA in Health Policy at the NYU Wagner School.

Fun fact...Sumit is training for his 3rd NYC Marathon this fall!

Marissa Lafer

Marissa grew up in Los Angeles, CA and attended Cornell University where she majored in Italian. She worked in finance after college, but later decided to pursue a career in medicine. She completed the postbac program at Columbia University and then spent a year doing clinical research in Orthopedics before starting medical school. In addition to being an Ambassador, Marissa was the Vice President and Treasurer of Student Council and currently serves an Advisor. Among other activities, she plays on the NYU Club Volleyball team and is active in the local NYC community including volunteering for organizations like the Center for Hearing and Communication. As a fourth year, she will be a student instructor for the bedside sessions in the Practice of Medicine class for pre-clinical students. She is applying to otolaryngology residencies and is looking forward to what lies ahead.

Lauren grew up outside of Indianapolis, IN. She graduated from Indiana University in 2011 where she double majored in Anthropology and Biochemistry. During her pre-clinical years at NYU, she was the Co-President for the Student Collective for ENT (SCENT), the Social Chair of BALSA, a member of the club volleyball team for NYU SoM, and a tour guide for prospective students. During her fourth year of residency, she will be applying into Orthopaedic Surgery which was greatly influenced by the summer externship program at Hospital for Joint Diseases she completed between her first and second years of medical school. In her free time, she loves cooking, running and hiking along with exploring NYC!

Nola grew up in Small Town, Georgia and majored in Science Business at the University of Notre Dame. At NYU SoM she is actively involved in Reach Out to Kids, Mini Meds, and the Community Service Program. In her first and only summer as a medical student she did a Pediatric Fellowship through NYU, participating in research on Pediatric Obesity at Bellevue Hospital. Outside of school she is proud to be a Notre Dame football fan and enjoys exploring NYC!

Pritha was born and raised in New York. She attended the United Nations International School in New York and graduated from Yale University in 2011, where she majored in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology.  At NYU she is part of the Steering Committee of the New York City Free Clinic, where she serves as co-chair for Laboratory Services. Pritha has studied many languages including French, Spanish, and Tamil, and enjoys doing yoga in her free time.

Kathy was raised in Warner Robins, GA and Pineville, LA. She attended Yale University and majored in Psychology. Upon graduation in 2009, Kathy worked at a pediatric ophthalmology practice in Manhattan and Brooklyn, NY. At NYU SoM, Kathy is on the leadership boards of the American Women’s Association, the Ob/Gyn Club, and RESCUE Nations. Outside of school, she remains active in nonprofit organizations that support education, cancer prevention, and the Asian-American community.

Stephanie Wu

Stephanie is originally from Boca Raton, Florida. She attended MIT, where she majored in Biology and Music. At NYU, Stephanie was one of the executive clinical coordinators for the NYC Free Clinic, the vice president of the Chamber Musicians in Medicine club, and a Medical Mandarin coordinator. Stephanie is also enrolled in the dual-degree MD/MBA program at Stern and plans on applying for radiology. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys playing the piano, exploring new restaurants, and rooting for the Miami Dolphins and Miami Heat!
